Highlights of the Collections of Antiquities and the Glyptothek

Many of the exhibits in the Munich Collections of Antiquities and the Glyptothek deserve to be contemplated more closely and described and appreciated in more detail, due to their outstanding artistic or historical-cultural quality. But it is not the right place to do that here.

If you really want to gain closer insight into the history of antique art, you will need to visit our two buildings on Königsplatz in person. Only here can you understand the masterpieces of Greek, Etruscan and Roman art in their true sense and experience their impact on the beholder. As the objects are invariably three-dimensional, the spatial impression is almost always indispensable for them to be appreciated.

Nevertheless, we want to show you here - hopefully in preparation for or in addition to a real visit to the museum - selected highlights from our collections in the form of short texts and images.
