Since 2013, visitors to the Ceramics Museum in Weiden can acquire an overview of the development of ancient Greek fine ceramics on the basis of selected items from the Munich vase collection. Housed in a baroque monastery complex, the International Ceramics Museum is a branch museum of the Design Museum in Munich.
Permanent exhibitions at several state museums in Munich – the Bavarian State Archaeological Collection, the Five Continents Museum, the Design Museum and the State Collections of Antiquities – exhibit ceramics of the highest quality from a wide range of cultures and periods. The branch museum at Weiden also owns its own collection of Chinese porcelain. Apart from that, it also puts on temporary exhibitions on various different topics.

The ancient vases from the State Collections of Antiquities in Munich demonstrate the wide repertoire of forms of the Greek potters, who created vessels for many different purposes for everyday and celebratory use. The development of the technology of ceramics, vase forms and the painting thereof over a period of seven centuries from the various production centres of the Greek world are showcased here.
