Cut stones with embossed or sunken images were already highly appreciated and collected in Classical Antiquity. Even today they have not lost their magic in the eye of the beholder. A high fascination emanates in equal measure from the delicate images and the precious stone materials, thus enthralling the beholder. The donation of the Helmut Hansmann (1924-1996) collection with around 800 antique and contemporary gems sets a focus of its own in the museums on Königsplatz. In this exhibition a collection of gems from the 7th century BC up until the 5th century AD are on display.
